Since June 14, 2017, the Musée international d’art naïf de Magog (MIANM) presents an exhibition of the works of Quebec artist Geneviève Jost. By organizing this retrospective exhibition of the work of this painter, the Museum wishes to pay tribute to an artist who has marked the Quebec artistic scene for more than thirty years. “The time has come, we believe, to emphasize its remarkable contribution to our collective heritage.” Having chosen as a plastic language that of naive art, and celebrating at the time the influences of the famous customs officer Rousseau and the primitive American painters whom she admires, Geneviève Jost has built over the years a corpus of works of great sensibility . Her work reflects both her French origins, the love for her land of adoption, Quebec, and her passions for human beings, landscapes, fauna, flora, culture in its various forms, and also for fantasy. With her help and thanks to the generosity of many collectors, MIANM has gathered more than forty canvases that highlight both the great diversity of influences on her art and the subtle evolution of her artistic practice. “Often in the works of Madame Jost,” reminds Michel Forest, director of MIANM, Quebec’s fauna and flora cease to be mere decorative elements and become the main subject of the canvases. The artist thus draws our attention to the richness and great beauty of the country in which we live. ” To be displayed at MIANM all summer, this exhibition will be accompanied by a colorful publication highlighting all the works exhibited and giving the floor to various players in the Quebec and international artistic community who are familiar with the work of Geneviève Jost. The exhibition will continue until September 10, 2017.
